What I mean by that is for a long time now it has become easier and easier to level while not having to learn your class. Not even in low level dungeons are players tested on abilites needed for later end game raids. I found my guild in a similar situation of Choice of Skywall.
The question came up that maybe we should switch to 10mans for Mists….After a very long chat on Mumble we came up with a new strategy on how we will deal with recruits, and almost completely changing the “type” of raider we would bring on.

We now instead of focusing on what recruits brought to us based on what they were, we shifted gears to focus on what they could be. It went from a long typed out App to a series of mumble interviews with 2-3 O’s each and then trying to form an opinion on whether the recruit could work. It boiled down to :

1. Does the person “fit” personality wise with us as a whole?
2. Can this person “learn”?

When I say learn in this case it meant numerous things. Do they have humbleness to admit that there are better ways to do things, do they have the mental process to apply new ideas about their particular class, and could they do this in a timely fashion? (4 weeks)

The results were astounding through test 10man raids and then onto test 25man raids, it was awesome watching players go from having a bare perception on how to play turn into very formidable raiders. Now of course there were players who didn’t get it or just didn’t work out, out every 10 apps i’d say 4 were solid additions. Another benefit of this it garners extreme loyalty to the guild. These were players that knew they could raid if given the opportunity to unlock their potential, and finally a guild did and grew with them.

Going back to the beginning there are far less raiders left from the good old days like we remember, 25man guilds have to adjust with the times and be willing to put in the work to bring potential raider apps up to speed. If not, we’ll see more and more Choice of Skywall’s and thier stories.

That being said, I also don’t pick up grey/whites anymore. The average price for one of those is like, 5g? When blues/rares sell for upwards of 200g, it’s just not worth my time to pick up all of them, thus resulting in more frequent visits to town.

Also, our recruitment info has a typo. Our Heroic Madness progress is no longer 5%

A friend of mine used to turn off all his chat channels and allow his 7-year-old daughter to play his raid-geared mage in dungeon finder groups. Perhaps Majik ran into something of that sort.

I can assure you, however, that it was not my friend. He gave up his nefarious ways when I taught his daughter the use of the auction house for buying random items while awaiting the ‘finder queue to pop. Come to think of it, that might also explain Kurn’s success with selling mysterious fortune cards.

It was a bug that they introduced with the patch. We were doing a raid achievment run for the first tier of cataclysm, and when we got to Al Akir we noticed that we only had untill the first pushback to kill him as he would push everyone so far back that we would loose the buff that enabled us to fly, resulting in everyone falling to there death as soon as he did it.

The fix was to enable a raid to have more then 10-15 s to do damage to him in the last phase.

It was doable tho, we got the achievment as we were flying backwards to our death while watching our dots do there thing.

Also, sorry you got jolly stomped in Magicka, Kurn. #sadmoose

I’ve heard of BalerocHealers but haven’t installed it yet. I feel as though if I started watching THAT, I’d just lose my own place in the rotation. But I might pick it up at any rate.

For Kurn: have you and/or your raiders tried the addon “BalerocHealers”? It lets you see all of the healers, what their spark stacks are AND who’s got vital flame active and how long till it expires.

The holy priest in my guild tripped over it, and showed me, and we tried it last week. It proved very handy for us.

Not complaining, but I like it when hybrid classes can utilize skills that make them unique pretty often (5 Maelstrom Weapon proc heal from an Enhancement Shaman, 3 stack Holy Power WoG heal from a Paladin, etc.).

All Shaman have access to Magma totem, Ele Shaman had Earthquake. The reason that there was the damage reduction to Earthquake is because Fire Nova was redesigned so that the explosion from it originates from any target that has Flame Shock on it. So basically, a Shaman would have Flame Shock already on a target or two then use Earthquake then use Fire Nova as Earthquake is going.

It’s good to know that what we set out to do actually makes a difference. Thank you for all that you’ve done, the friendship that was forged, and all the other warm fuzzy stuff. Quigoni (now Presbyter) still talks about what happened in SW that one day so many moons ago, lol. Leaving Eldre’Thalas for Eitrigg was a hard decision to make but we felt like it was needed, for personal reasons. I’m thankful that RealID is there so that we can continue to talk. Miss playing with ya buddy.

I wanted to chime in on the professions discussion, particularly the part where you mention it used to be the big thing to have Blacksmithing and Jewelcrafting for the hardcore min-maxers.

I expect this to repeat itself come 4.2.x.

The reason for Jewelcrafting is simple. It is 1 point better than the other crafting professions in your chosen field (brilliant chimaera eyes are 67 intellect, 27 better than the current best quality gem – 27 * 3 = 81).

The reason for Blacksmithing is a little more in depth. Blacksmithing provides you with two extra sockets (wrist and gloves). Currently, the best quality of gems is superior (40 intellect) and causes the two extra sockets to balance with other crafting professions at +80 of your primary stat. When epic gems are introduced those sockets will then be worth +100 of your primary stat (or whatever the quality of epics turns out to be). I say 4.2.x because epic gems have traditionally been released with the third tier of content in an expansion (MH/BT in BC; ToC in Wrath).
